John McKay Strong

First Mayor of Selma, Alabama, he served seven years: 1852 - 1859.
 

John McKay Strong "was postmaster at Selma, Alabama, for 16 years (1842-58); justice of the peace for 24 years (1844-68); first mayor of the city of Selma and re-elected six times successively afterwards (1852-58); city clerk for nine years (1858-67); now engaged as a planter (1869) near Montevallo, Ala.

 

On Aug. 29, 1865, he was appointed post-master at Selma by the Post Master General at Washington, but declined the appointment."

 

He married Eliza Beebe (born December 22, 1806 - dau. of Asa Beebe and Ann Matthews) on November 27, 1834.
