Benjamin Cobb Fowlkes was born November 1877 to Samuel Augustus Fowlkes and Mary Pinkie Cobb Fowlkes (their graves are located in Old Live Oak Cemetery). He Married Alice Armstrong Love in November 1901. They had four children; Benjamin Cobb Fowlkes Jr. (1903), Walter Love Fowlkes (1905), Inez Welsh Fowlkes (1908) and Edward Taylor Fowlkes (1911).
He attended dental school in Kentucky and set up a dental practice in Selma in 1902 and practiced in Selma until 1930 when he was forced to retire due to a stroke. He died in December 1933. He is buried in New Live Oak Cemetery next to his wife Alice, his son Edward, daughter in law Elizabeth and granddaughter Kathleen.
